Skyhawks Ready to Roll in Reno

Seeking their 23rd national title, Fort Lewis College Cycling heads to Reno, NV next week to contest the 2017 USA Cycling Collegiate National Championships of Cyclocross (CX). One Wednesday January 10th at 9:35am PST the FLC Men race in the Varsity race against the best teams in the country and the Women toe the line at 3:25pm PST. Then on Thursday at 3:30pm FLC will compete in the Team Relay with two Women and two Men doing battle with the other teams for 1 lap a piece. This race will surely be the determining factor in the Skyhawk’s main objective- the overall Team Omnium. With that said, FLC has a few riders that can compete for the win and that goes a long way for Team Omnium points.

Last year’s 2nd place in the Men’s race, senior John Anderson, will be competing in his final CX race as a Skyhawk as well as Ian McPherson and Stephan Davoust. Henry Nadell took the Rocky Mountain Coference CX title back in December and will get a front row call-up and freshman Skyler Mackey has been racing the biggest CX races around the country all year. Thomas Gauthier and Harrsion Buckley round out the Men and will surprise many with their strength and skill.

Ellen Campbell, junior, took the conference Women’s title and will look to capitalize on her front row call-up. Freshman Katja Freeburn has been training hard all Fall learning a new discipline. Kelsay Lundberg and Anna Schehrer bring Nationals experience to the table after strong finishes last year in Hartford and Kira Payer is looking to finish solid as well.
